The latest public opinion poll shows that some Americans who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 have already cut ties with friends who refuse to get vaccinated.
A total of 1,000 Americans participated in the survey, which sought to uncover the reasons behind the breakdown of friendships over the past year and a half. The results showed that 16% of respondents reported having ended at least three friendships since the pandemic began in March 2020.
Approximately one in seven (14%) vaccinated respondents reported that they no longer maintain friendships with individuals who are unwilling to get vaccinated.
The vast majority of vaccine recipients (97%) view their estranged friends as “hardline anti‑vaxxers” and believe they will never be able to persuade them of the importance of vaccination.
