The 2022 Olympic Games were welcomed by political leaders from around the world.

The event is regarded as an important platform for fostering friendship and solidarity.

On Monday, political leaders from around the world praised Beijing for fulfilling its commitment to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, noting that this underscores China’s responsibility as a major power, and wished the upcoming Games every success.

They made the above remarks at a virtual consultation meeting held on Monday by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman of the Senate Defence Committee of Pakistan, stated that this is “a remarkable achievement and success of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese government, and its people,” particularly given that the Olympics were held during the COVID‑19 pandemic. He said that China has fully honored the commitments it made when bidding for the 2015 Olympic Games.

Hussein recalled that he attended the 2008 Summer Olympics and was deeply impressed by the “organization, discipline, and efficiency” demonstrated by the Chinese government and people. He said he is confident that the Winter Olympics, which open on February 4, will likewise showcase first‑rate, highly efficient organization.

He said that this Olympic Games coincides with the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese zodiac, a year in which the tiger symbolizes strength, resilience, and fortitude—qualities deeply cherished by the Chinese people.

He said he hopes that guests from other countries will feel the warmth and hospitality of the Chinese people during their stay in Beijing.

He said, “The Olympic Games bring people together around a shared goal, which is a fine embodiment of the Olympic spirit,” adding that the Olympics serve as an important platform for fostering friendship and solidarity.

Ananda Bokarell, a member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Nepal, praised China for fulfilling its commitment to host the Olympic Games in a “green, inclusive, open, and clean” manner.

He said that the Olympic venues are equipped with cutting-edge technology and run entirely on green energy, fully embodying China’s commitment to a green development philosophy.

Xiao Fucan, a member of the People’s Justice Party and president of the Malaysia–China Twin Parks Trade and Investment Association, stated that China has handled epidemic prevention and control very effectively, thereby enhancing the sense of security among athletes and other participants in the Games.

He added that sport provides an excellent platform for mutual learning and exchange among different civilizations.

As the Chinese Lunar New Year approaches, he expressed his hope that foreign athletes would experience the festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival and the vibrant spirit of Chinese civilization.

Leaders of the participating political parties also voiced their opposition to the politicization of the Olympic Games and to demonizing China on geopolitical grounds. They stated that the attempts by a handful of countries in this regard run counter to the Olympic spirit and do not represent the majority of the international community.
